Education in Business and Communications
I did my undergraduate degree in Communications at Queen’s University and did my MBA at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Work experience in Business and Marketing
Prior to teaching, I worked for AT&T in Asia Pacific, responsible for marketing activities associated with strategy, negotiation, deployment, implementation, market share growth. I was lucky enough to be part of their online services organization and involved in the deployment of AT&T’s Internet Services in Asia Pacific, eventually heading up their marketing department focused on online services. I also worked with an internet financial portal called Stockhouse.com to raise funds and start up an office in Hong Kong, eventually managing employees in Hong Kong, Australia, China, Japan and Singapore. Other companies and industries I’ve worked in include Morgan Stanley, a hedge fund administrator and a recruiting firm.
Courses taught at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
For the past 4 years, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching introductory and advanced business communication courses as well as marketing courses. I enjoy finding ways to show students how textbook concepts can fit into real world applications. The focus on ‘practical’ teaching at Kwantlen is something I fully support and can see that it prepares students well for the workplace upon graduating.
My activities outside of school
When I’m not ‘teaching’, I’m marking and preparing for class; basically, I don’t have a life outside of school! Actually, during any spare time I have, I enjoy playing with my 3 children, driving them to their music and dance lessons, and waiting patiently in the rain during their soccer games and practices. And if I have any time left after that, I try to practice yoga.
